Safety First
Your safety is of utmost importance. Whatever you do, avoid putting yourself in danger. There is no need to add yourself to the casualty list.

Practice makes perfect

Rescue and survival swimming skills enable you to perform an effective rescue and live to tell the story. Assess your abilities in regular intervals. This keeps you up to speed and alert.

We've provide here a few training tips that are great fun, but also shapen your skills. Try them out in your group and send us some feedback, please.

Survival Swimming Lesson Plan

Many readers asked us to provide a lesson plan for their survival swimming.

Rescue Skills

Before you start any rescue you want to know the status of any casualties you come across. We show you the four most likely casualties.

As a last resort should you enter the water and tow a casualty back to safety. There are many different tows. Some have regional variations.

Safety Week

Today marked the completion of Safety Week at our swimming pool. I had to prep the boys that they would be jumping into the pool with their clothes on, shoes and all. Tim was a bit resistant initially because he didn't want his clothes to get wet. Logan on the other hand couldn't wait. He thought it was the coolest thing to be able to go swimming in clothes. Most of their lesson was done fully clothed, with the last portion done in just bottoms. They had a blast!

Summer Camp

I have helped run the swim programs at a youth camp for several summers. Very often, the students showed up in their regular clothes. Some even mentioned they didn't know they actually had to swim, (yeah ok!) and asked if they could still participate. Of course they could, that is why we are all there.

As much as we could, we instructed how the weight of the clothes would help build up their strength. On most summers, half way through the week everyone came down wearing regular clothes every day. One test we also do is the survival clothes inflation. Aside from all that, not only the instructors but the students as well noticed how much easier it was to swim in their swimsuits.
